Patriots Dynasty - No Doubt Now

Patriots just won their third championship in three years!  Yes they are a dynasty.  Dynasty? Definitely. The New England Patriots don't have to proclaim greatness. The NFL record book does it for them.

The Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years Sunday, 24-21 over the Philadelphia Eagles, and now they are challenging history.

It was their ninth straight postseason victory, equaling Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers. It was coach Bill Belichick's 10th playoff victory in 11 games, one better than the great Lombardi. And it matched Dallas' run of three championships in four years in the early 1990s.

Soon the NFL will be renaming the Lombardi trophey to "The Belichick" trophy

A Day to Miss New England - A Blizzard of a Champoinship Game

Today is the kind of day that a native Bostonian misses home.  A northeastern (Nor'easter) blizzard is hitting town and the Patriots are hitting Pittsburg for the conference championship.

How bout them Patriots.  A World Series and a Super Bowl just 3 1/2 months apart?  From the Red Sox first World Series victory in 86 years and now the local footballers are inching toward dynasty status, threatening to win a third Super Bowl in four years, which would put them in the pantheon of pro pigskin powers alongside Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers of the '60s, Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain of the '70s, the San Francisco 49ers of the '80s, and the Dallas Cowboys of the '90s.

Fuggedabouthim (Pedro Martinez)

Martinez Never Cared About the Boston Red Sox. He Used the Team in a Highly Unethical Fashion to Get the Most Money. The Sox Were Crazy to Offer Him Three Years. Period.

"There are a lot of people who love me in Boston and I know that right now they must be crying. I tried. I offered my heart, my soul, to stay in Boston. Things could not work out the way we wanted them to. But in reality it's no one's fault. God simply wanted this to be my destiny right now."
-- Another Amazin' Speech from Pedro

ESPN Reports: In the end, respect is defined as money for Pedro Martinez. Oh, he might have felt Red Sox owner John Henry and president Larry Lucchino dissed him because they did not immediately give him what he believes he is worth. But in the end, they scraped and bowed and gave him the perks he requested, all proof he is different from the other players on the Red Sox.

It's ovah! - To the Dads, Kids, and Generations of us New Englanders - Time to Celebrate

I come from a large New England family. There are three generations of Furrier's who have never seen the Red Sox win a world series. Now they have a reason to toast the Sox and wipe away the years of frustrations.

I spoke with my Dad - he is a die hard Sox fan living in Naples Florida - after the Yanks went up 0-3. His response was so typical and reflected the general attitude of generations of Sox fans.. "they stink...they find a way to lose, typical choke, ..etc... Well they certainly looked dead...even I was down saying just win game 4 and avoid a sweep to the Yanks... The sox never lost and after the final out I called my family and Dad and his voice was horse from yelling at the TV. The negative was gone. The Sox broke the curse. They were winners.

And now it's time to toast to Ted Williams, Tom Yawkey, Sherm Feller, Dick O'Connell, Haywood Sullivan, Joe Cronin, Eddie Collins, Tony Conigliaro, Ned Martin, Helen Robinson, Jack Rogers, and thousands of others who toiled for the team, but died before seeing their Sox win a World Series.

It's time for smiles on the faces of Carl Yastrzemski, Bobby Doerr, Dominic DiMaggio, Charlie Wagner, Gene Conley, Bill Monbouquette, Chuck Schilling, John McNamara, Joe Morgan, Earl Wilson, Mike Andrews, Reggie Smith, and hundreds of other men who wore the Red Sox uniform, but never won in October. And don't forget Curt Gowdy, Lou Gorman, Dick Bresciani, Joe Mooney, and all the ushers and Sox employees who are as much a part of Fenway Park as the Green Monster and Pesky's Pole.

Time for the Nation to rejoice. Time to dance. Time to go to your window, open it wide, stick your head out and scream, "The Red Sox won the World Series." No one's been able to do that in Boston since Woodrow Wilson was president.

This is the kind of event that unites Boston Red Sox fans of all ages from Palo Alto, California to Cape Cod. A memory that will last forever for all Sox fans. From my Dad in Naples Florida, my brothers and sisters in New England, and my wife and I watching with my sons and daughters in Palo Alto California all three generations are celebrating today.

Party like it's 1918 - Historic Sweep(s) for the Ages II

I post a party like it's 1918 a sweep for the ages after the Angels series thinking like this was the best...boy was I wrong. The Red Sox just won 8 straight (yes 8 straight) post season games. Basically they won all their series in consecutive games.

They beat the Angels in 3 straight in the LDS. Down 0-3 to the Yanks they run off 4 staight in historic fashion in the ACLS. Now they run the table against the Cards in the WS.

This has to be the most historic sweep(s) of any team in MLB postseason history never mind that the Red Sox pulled it off.

Boston's Magical Journey - Unbelievable

For the last 86 years, they have wandered from decade to decade in search of an elusive world championship. Now, in late October of this extraordinary season, at a time when they seem more determined than ever, someone also seems content to give it to them.

Now after rolling the Yanks the Sox are unstoppable. Teamwork, energy, confidence, and now poise to take the trophy.

Back from Vacation - Time for School

The family is back from a long three week vacation to Beantown. What a great trip we had the last week staying at our summer home in Hull, Massachusetts. Hull is famous for being a nice beach community south of Boston and most recently the home of Napster founder Shawn Fanning. I just love it because the beaches are great for my four kids. Unlike Northern California you can actually swim in the water.

Now it's time for the 2004-05 school year. My two oldest started school yesterday here in Palo Alto. Back to drop-offs, pickup, play dates, and afternoon activities. Someone in Palo Alto should start a busing company.

Boston Bash - Democrat Style

Hey what can I say. Boston Rocks with the Dems. Sitting in cozy Palo Alto this weekend has me kicking myself for not going to my hometown city to party down with the Dems. Just watching the Red Sox get reenergized makes me think that Kerry may win the Presidency and the Red Sox may beat the Cubs for the World Series! What action in a great town.

After calling all my friends from Stockbridge to Boston, I've got a good read on what's happening. IT'S ROCKING!

The party is one big Democratic Frat party. Makes me want to adandon the Republicans.

Hey maybe this is the year the Sox win the World Series.
